Machteld van Geenhoven : Flutist & Suzuki Flute teacher trainer

Machteld Van Geenhoven graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 1988. Since then she has been teaching flute, piccolo and chamber music at the Municipal Academy of Music, Word & Dance Herentals. In 1997, her 4-year-old daughter started taking viola lessons according to the mother tongue method at Kortjakje. The interest in this method for flute grew and in 2008 she became the first Belgian flutist to obtain the final diploma as Suzuki Flute Teacher, according to the guidelines of European Suzuki Association. She founded a music studio in Herentals, Flautino, where children from 4 to 8 years old are welcome to take flute lessons according to this methodology. Later they continue with their flute lessons at the academy. Through her pedagogical drive, many of her students succeeded in auditions for a soloist spot in youth orchestras at home and abroad and won prizes at (inter)national music competitions.
Machteld is founder and president of Suzuki Fluit Vlaanderen vzw and Board member of Talent Education Suzuki Institute Belgium vzw.
